  Has Planet released anything yet?
Posted by: depscribe - 02-28-2018, 09:56 PM - Forum: Linux on Gemini - Replies (11)

Has Planet made available to the community any of the things that would be of help in development for it — blobs, driver source such as it is, any kind of API — such that development for anything but Android might begin? Is there a repository of Gemini-specific stuff anywhere? I don’t mean Adam’s admirable applications, but vendor-supplied support. Have we yet seen any of that?

Lightbulb Samsung Dex concept vs Gemini dual boot (switch to Linux DE without device reboot)
Posted by: nox - 02-22-2018, 12:08 PM - Forum: Android on Gemini - Replies (6)

What do you think about Samsung's Dex approach?

As far as I understand Dex allows to share kernel (chroot?) between Android and Linux DE and switch it dynamically.

Can we use this to remove Android completely?

I was told on Twitter (by Planet) that we can do away with Android on the Gemini entirely. Is this the tool that can do it?

External Monitor - Mirror or not?
Posted by: adamboardman - 02-20-2018, 11:31 AM - Forum: Linux on Gemini - Replies (1)

[Note: written prior to hands on hardware]

Do we have any info on how the external monitor is handled?

From info up to now it seems its mirrored only, with the suggestion that a software fix might let us not be mirrored further down the line.

My particular concern is that I don't have a monitor with the same pixel count as the Gemini or even the same ratio, so I wish to avoid the squish/stretch or blur that I suspect might happen depending on how one is shoved into the other.

Also some use cases for mirroring:

  • Presentation - internal (notes + current + next slide thumbnails), external - slides.
  • Legacy X App - internal is touchpad, external shows regular desktop with mouse pointer moved by using internal screen as a touchpad.
  • Dual screening - many things from: internal screen shows the document your currently working on, external - the source materials and research that your working from, to: video on the external with email on the internal etc.

  Android version on release?
Posted by: gfoster - 02-19-2018, 09:43 PM - Forum: Android on Gemini - Replies (10)

Anyone know exactly which version of Android is going to be shipped with this device? (technical blurb simply says "latest release" - whatever that means)

  What works?
Posted by: munchausen - 02-19-2018, 06:50 PM - Forum: Linux on Gemini - Replies (20)

The latest campaign update mentioned that not all drivers are working under Linux. What exactly is working and what is not? What do we have specs for to write our own software (e.g. baseband for writing a dialler or SMS application)? Does the cellular network connectivity work under Linux? Are there GPU drivers?

Also, what bootloader is used and can we get sources (the update seems to indicate that we will be able to soon)?

Looking forward to getting my hands on hardware! Unfortunately I have an order number > 1200 and < 1300 so I am just out of range of the first batch...
